It is recommended that officers and education advisors have a good understanding of the P&P’s in regards to the performance of their duties. Who elects the National Chairperson? Elected by the national BOD (Board of Directors): The election of the National Chair shall take place as one of the first orders of business each year at the January meeting after a quorum has been seated 2.2.1.2 Any BOD may file as candidate for the position. to chart

The BOD is elected by active members and serve a three year term with a two-term limit. There are 13 on the board (4 elected one year, 4 second year and 5 the next). Members serve on one of the three standing committees - Governance, Finance, or Planning. Division directors are also assigned to one of these committees. 1. How can members affect change? With an RFA- Request for Board Action. WHAT’S THAT ?? 2. Can any member listen to the general business portion of the BOD meetings?

An RFA is a Request for Board Action: It is a proposal for National Board consideration. Any member in good standing may submit an RFA. 3.3.1.1 Members are encouraged to review all RFAs pending for board consideration. What They Do - - 4.2.4.1 National program directors shall determine a format and frequency schedule for division program supervisors to collate and report: a.) Division quality management data; b.) Goals and objectives for program improvement at the division and region levels; and c.) Who appoints ITs (instructor trainers)? The Division Program Supervisor appointment is made by the division director according to division bylaws. It is recommended that the division director consult with the outgoing division education program supervisor and the national education program director to determine the needs of the program in the division, and to solicit names of suggested replacements. 4.8.1.4 Who appoints ITs (instructor trainers)? DIVISION PROGRAM SUPERVISOR appoints, trains and supervises ITs based on need. Recommended ratio is one IT to 10 instructors 4.8.3.1 to chart

How does a part-time paid patroller register? The Professional Division is a management-based unit composed of ski patrols throughout the United States that have corporate registrations with the NSP. A delegate administers each region. 2.1.2.2. How does a part-time paid patroller register? 5.3.6.4  A part-time paid patroller is defined as an individual who is paid FICA wages by ski area management to work a part-time schedule during that area's ski season. This person may be included in the Professional Division patrol if the full-time paid patrollers are registered in the Professional Division. Otherwise, the part-time paid patroller should register with the geographic division to chart

WHY must a PR/PD be knowledgeable of the JSOU ? Which position needs to be approved by area management— Patrol Director or Patrol Representative? The NSP patrol representative must be approved by area management or public lands administrator. 2.4.2.1 WHY must a PR/PD be knowledgeable of the JSOU ? The Joint Statement of Understanding is between the NSP and NSAA. It specifies that a patrol once established is under the control of the area management and must abide by the policies and procedures of area management. What is the Governance committee? The Governance Committee is one of the three standing committees of the board of directors, and is comprised of members of the board and division directors, and may include NSP members-at-large. The Governance Committee supports the board by developing and recommending processes and information that allow the board to operate more efficiently and strategically. 3.5.1.1 to chart

Do divisions receive a part of Alumni dues? Yes The annual dues for alumni membership are $30 (as of 2017), $10 of which is sent to the division for disbursement in accordance with the division policy. 5.7.2.2 What must a DD do to have NSP pay for a National level officer to travel to a division meeting or event? When travel by a national officer, program director, or national advisor to a division for any division meeting or event and reimbursement from the NSP is expected, there must be an invitation from that division director to that specific staff member or officer for reimbursement to occur.
