Welcome to SPEECH Some of you may wonder why you finally decided to take this class or maybe wonder why you are putting yourself through this. . . . But, we all know that communication is the key to any successful endeavor.

Without clear communication, mistakes are bound to occur. Miscommunication - Google Video

Effective communication is a process rather than a product. Always celebrate where you have come rather than ONE isolated activity or speaking assignment.

Before you can be an effective speaker, one must explore who he or she is. A sense of self is essential! (That is why we will do so many icebreaker activities).

Students will experience themselves as a communicator in a variety of situations and experiences. Speech is about doing rather than just reading about!

The first icebreaker activity is going to allow us to get to know who you are and allow each of us to speak about ourselves.

NEVER FORGET A NAME. . . We are each going to introduce ourselves, but we are going to do it in a way you will become UNFORGETTABLE! Instead of just saying the obvious. . “Hello, my name is Mrs. Daniels and I am your speech teacher. . .”

You will say something that makes you stand out You will say something that makes you stand out. You can create a story, poem, associations, jokes or riddles. The basic idea is that you will find a method to relate your name to the class in such a way that your class members will not forget it or YOU. As an audience member, you will attempt to remember as much information as you can. You will write this down in your speech notebook. Place the date at the top of the entry.

Example My name is Mrs. Daniels and once saved the life Of a woman who was held captive by a knife (True story by the way. . .I will save it for a rainy day)

Once all the names are completed, we will see how many you remember Once all the names are completed, we will see how many you remember. So, pay attention, listen and be creative with your thoughts. You have the rest of the period to create the UNFORGETTABLE YOU. . Don’t share until Monday. Time begins now. 
