Stop Motion The task

At the end of this session you will be able to: Design your 30 second stop motion for your interactive book Collect and create the assets you will need Research how you will produce this 30 seconds of stop motion Some of you will be able to make your stop motion

Research What stop motion examples can you use for inspiration and how are they going to impact on your ideas? Create a moodboard to help show the style/mood of the piece What primary research could you do to help make the stop motion? What secondary research could you use to help make the stop motion? Research does include the stop motion experiment

Pre-production Decide on what section of your book you will use stop motion Use the stop motion storyboard activity sheet to help you What characters will you use? DRAW / DESCRIBE YOUR CHARACTER THIS GIVES YOU A GUIDE INTO WHAT CHARACTER YOU WILL USE AND WILL MAKE THE ACTION DEVELOPMENT EASIER. In the activity sheet there is three boxes for the character, you can use more or less and a character could be an object

Pre-Production In the activity sheet you will see a box asking for an overview of the plot. This is where you describe what part of the story you are going to tell in the 30 seconds. Be realistic with the 30 seconds. Keep it simple. Do not over complicate things. Use the five stages to help you

In the box that asks you to draw the set, this is to give an indication of where your stop motion is going to be set. Someone based their stop motion in a classroom and took a picture, then used it in the box bellow Describe/Draw the Set:

This box is your shopping list, what do you need to make this happen? List the mediums you will use

Storyboard thumbnail This is to give a visual representation of what action is happening in your stop motion. The focus is the visual and not the technical See this as a comic strip Thought this might help You do not need to use all the thumbnails on the activity sheet

Storyboard This is where you add the technical aspect to the story board. Describe what is the action and give an indication of how long each frame needs to be Scene No: Description:   Time duration:

Make your assets From your shopping list you need to make, or find, your props, set, characters and anything else you need to use. Do not rush making your assets, this is not a five second task Taking your time will make them of quality Make sure you have everything you need

Production You will be working with 6 frames per second How many frames/stills do you need to take for a 30 second clip? Make sure you have the equipment you need If you need help making this, ask! Help each other Above all…..KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Audio You need to make a list of all the audio you need for this What music will you use? What Foley will you use and how will you make it? Collect it Make it

Post Production You will be using premier to make your stop motion You need to make sure your time line is zoomed in so you can see the frame indicators per second This is one second, so within this section you will need 6 still images

Right click on the piece of footage in the timeline and select speed/duration.

Change the speed to 00:00:00:04

This is going to take time and patience Make sure your stop motion does not look like it is plonked into the book, but is part of the narrative and part of your style This is not about what I want, but what you want and how are you going to complete it. We are all working towards the same product, but your approach is going to be different to your peers and your style is your own!
