PSALM 131 FACTS ABOUT PSALM 131 - Written by David - Entitled “A Song of Ascents of David”. - It has 3 verses. - Talks about having a humble spirit, and a spirit of confident trust in God. - It’s believed to be a reflection of David in his Youth. He was being spoken of as being over confident.

Verse 1 O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvellous for me. - David speaks of his Character. - He asserts that he is not over ambitious. - He emphasizes his decision of humility.

Verse 2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me - He confidently speaks about the work he has done on himself. - David cites an analogy with a weaned child with its mother echoing dependence and a certain meekness. - He asserts that he has placed his abilities, nature, desires and passions within him under control.

Verse 3 O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. - In the midst of the happening he had Israel in mind. - David emphasized hope in God because he knew God is faithful. - The adage of a time reference highlights the unchangeable nature of God.

The situation of Jesus Christ. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. Luke 2:46,47 Jesus was outstanding in wisdom and not intimidated. He stepped out of the status quo. He was humble and not arrogant.

What can we learn? As young as you are the Lord can endow you with wisdom and understanding to the astonishment of people. Give yourself unto humility and don’t be arrogant but do what the Lord requires of you. If we ever encounter such youth we must not be threatened. Lets rather encourage and guide them.

1 Timothy 4:12-16 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. Practice these things, immerse yourself in them,[a] so that all may see your progress. Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.

GOD BLESS YOU!!!
