General Geography – the course What kinds of things will I learn about in this course? You will learn about the world in which you live. We will take a trip down to the beach and learn about the impact of Perth’s growing population on our precious coastal environments. We will also discover what makes Perth such a great place to live. We will investigate a number of development issues and how these are impacting upon people and places, and we will get out into our local area and do some practical Geocaching in our local area What kinds of skills do the successful students in the course have? Successful students have good short answer, extended answer and data analysis skills. They are prepared to commit time each day to keep up to date with their course work and to revise their work.

Course combinations  Will this course require me to miss other classes? In Year 11 and Year 12 you will go on an excursion each semester as part of your inquiry research. What other courses go well with this course? This course combines well with General Outdoor Education, General Physical Education Studies and General Integrated Science.

Assessment What kinds of assessment will I do? There are many opportunities to succeed in Geography. The four types of assessment include geographical inquiry, fieldwork/practical skills, short and extended responses and examinations.

Most enjoyable aspects Students enjoy the excursions immensely. ‘It is really rewarding to combine one’s practical experience with theoretical knowledge.’
