Sentinel Workshop: context The series of Sentinel constellations will provide data continuity of ERS-1 / -2, Envisat, and SPOT-like observations with improved observational capabilities and a long-term operational commitment, the science community with an unprecedented observation capacity in addressing challenges of ESA’s Living Planet Programme and of the objectives outlined by major international scientific initiatives. ESA’s effort to exploit the Sentinels scientifically – in addition to their operational objectives - therefore fosters integrative data processing by making full use of the synergies provided by the different Sentinel instruments.
Sentinel Workshop: motivation The Sentinel Workshop is motivated by the need: to inform the wider science community about the Sentinel missions, the programmatic framework, the status of their mission implementation, and their operational data product portfolios; to introduce the scientific exploitation of Sentinels, in addition to their operational mandate. Challenges and opportunities for the science communities will be highlighted, allowing to prepare for the fleet of new missions; to motivate further study activities by presenting first results obtained by simulation experiments, airborne campaigns, retrieval and impact assessment studies
