Board of Education Meeting April 18, 2016

Mary Jones – Teacher, Port Huron High School Innovate, Educate! Art Teacher, Port Huron High School

Mary Jones – Teacher, Port Huron High School Innovate, Educate! The Memory Project invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world …. … who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, and extreme poverty.

Mary Jones – Teacher, Port Huron High School Innovate, Educate! Through The Memory Project, students in Mary Jones’ art classes at Port Huron High received a picture of a student from either Madagascar or the Dominican Republic.

Mary Jones – Teacher, Port Huron High School Innovate, Educate! Dear Mrs. Jones and Artists, I’m very happy to let you know that the kids in Madagascar have received the portraits, and they absolutely loved them! In total my two team members delivered portraits to kids at six different locations. They took video footage of the kids receiving the portraits at four of those locations, and here you will see just how excited the kids were to receive their special gifts: https://vimeo.com/159301736/775b4348b0

Mary Jones – Teacher, Port Huron High School Innovate, Educate! If you notice that some of the kids look rather serious, please know that is usually just because they feel shy and nervous in front of the camera. I think you will also be pleased to know that we were able to make a collective financial donation of $4,100 to help support the kids' education, thanks to the participation fees you contributed. So please be proud that you helped to provide that gift along with the portraits. Thanks so much to all of you for being part of the Memory Project. You have given these children meaningful keepsakes to last a lifetime. -- Ben Schumaker Founder and Director of The Memory Project

Mary Jones – Teacher, Port Huron High School Innovate, Educate! Thank you, Mrs. Jones for leading your students in this effort. What an innovative approach to learning that goes well beyond the classroom walls. Great job!
