The Results Matthew 25:16-18 The men with five & two talents doubled their amount Through trade, diligent efforts and hard work these men used the money entrusted to them to gain a double amount more The man who received the least of all hid his talent He made no effort to even try - he buried his talent Matt. 25:16-18 - Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
Their Lord Was Pleased Matthew 25:19-23 The two faithful men are praised for their work “well done” - vss. 21, 23 The Lord commends these two men “thou good and faithful servant” - vss. 21, 23 These men are rewarded “thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things” - vss. 21, 23 They are invited to share his joy “enter thou into the joy of thy lord” - vss. 21, 23 Matt. 25:19-23 - 19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
One Man Makes Excuse Matthew 25:24-25 The slothful man blamed his failure on his Lord “Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed” - vs. 24 He said that the was afraid and hid his talent “…I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth…” - vs. 25 This man tried appeasing his Lord by retuning the talent “lo, there thou hast that is thine” - vs. 25 Matt. 25:24-28 - 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
His Lord’s Response Matthew 25:26-27 He called this man what he really was “Thou wicked and slothful servant” - vs. 26 His Lord told him what he should have done “Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury” - vs. 27 Matt. 25:26-27 - 26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
His Lord’s Punishment Matthew 25:28-30 His Lord takes away his unused talent “Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents” - vs. 28 His Lord expresses His displeasure in the slothful man “For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath” - vs. 29 His Lord renders severe punishment and casts him out “And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” - vs. 30 Matt. 25:28-30 - 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Recognizing Your Talents We all have talents, but not the same or equal numbers The number and kind may vary Some are easier to recognize than others Wealth, education, positions of influence, intelligence, good looks Some need to be discovered and developed May determine through diligent efforts Make diligent effort to develop your abilities Seek advice from others Others can often see our strengths and weakness
Use Your Talents To God’s Glory Don’t bury your talents like the slothful man did Develop your talents Seek to grow in God’s grace on go on to perfection Hebrews 5:12-6:3; 2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Peter 3:17-18 Glorify God with the talents you are blessed with by serving Him faithfully as a servant should Heb. 5:12-6:2 - 2 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 2 Tim. 2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Pet. 3:17-18 - Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. Use It Or Loose It!
