A CO-PRODUCTION STORY

DEFINITIONS OF CO-PRODUCTION ‘Co-production is not just a word, it’s not just a concept, it is a meeting of minds coming together to find a shared solution. In practice, it involves people who use services being consulted, included and working together from the start to the end of any project that affects them’ ‘A relationship where professionals and citizens share power to plan and deliver support together, recognising that both have vital contributions to make in order to improve quality of life for people and communities.’ Source: https://www.scie.org.uk/publications/guides/guide51/what-is-coproduction/defining-coproduction.asp

CO-PRODUCTION IS MAINSTREAM 12/06/2019 CO-PRODUCTION IS MAINSTREAM “NOTHING FOR US, WITHOUT US” “Not just a nice thing to do – it’s best practice – included in commissioning, meaning that any service you work for in the sector, will have this as a stipulation” “It makes sense – people are the experts in their own journey – process of economies – equally know what people DON’T want / need” “PEER MENTORING – real involvement – improving employability – again in best council and health and wellbeing strategies” Jon Mills and Joe Alderdice

BARRIERS TO CO-PRODUCTION

CO-PRODUCTION IS A CHALLENGE “Being involved in coproduction makes us vulnerable and powerful at the same time. It’s easy to forget that we are all glorious, complicated, amazing, confusing creatures filled with our own vanities and insecurities and powers and surprises. We might be keen to be involved in coproduction because we want to change the world; but we have to be prepared for the experience to change us.” Mark Brown @markoneinfour

ARE YOU STANDING IN THE WAY OF CO-PRODUCTION ARE YOU STANDING IN THE WAY OF CO-PRODUCTION? How can you share your power more?
