What is Cyber-Bullying?
Cyber? Cyber-Bullying: When a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. ***There must be a minor on both sides, or at least have been instigated by a minor against another minor ***No matter what form, bullying or harassing behavior is wrong and can be punishable according to our Code of Conduct.
Cyber? What about when an adult (anyone 18 or older) becomes involved? It’s never cyber-bullying when an adult becomes involved… Now it is cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking This is a crime and police will become involved.
Cyber-ethics/Social Responsibility Be responsible when using cyber tools If something inappropriate is directed at you or you see it directed at someone: Use STOP, WALK, TALK Tell the person who is posting to STOP Then, WALK away from the technology (do not post or respond after telling to STOP) TALK to an adult about what’s happening
Cyber-ethics/Social Responsibility Remember, nothing you post ever goes away. It can always be retrieved. If you are not a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem.
Expected School Behavior What are our school-wide expectations? - When you are socially responsible with cyber use, you will be following our school wide expectations. This is the place for you to review your school’s expectations. Add them in as students tell you what they are.
