Easter in Slovakia

Easter in Slovakia is a combination of the Christian and pagan traditions. In Slovakia tradition is a major part of the way of life of the people. It ties them with the past and serves as a common link with families and the future. I t preserves the unique heritage of their religious and ethnic past. The Easter celebration may will be the cornerstone of the Slavic tradition and the focal point of the culture. T here is a debate as to whether these traditions will survive. There is no question, however, that many of the Easter traditions begun in Slovakia influence the celebration of Easter around the world.

Our students study pedagogy and after school they start to work at nursery schools, or at school clubs as teachers. Anyway many of them will go on to universities. Easter holiday is a special occasion for kids, too. Our students practise the ir knowlidge at basic schools with children 6 –10 yaers old. They teach them also how to make some beautiful Easter eggs.

There are many kinds of Easter eggs in our country. The´re called kraslice. It depends on regions and materials used for the process. The most beautiful are those eggs with small holes on the surface.

Simple, beautiful kraslice or Slovakian Easter Eggs are within the reach of any beginner! These elegant eggs make great gifts for family and friends. You will need: Smooth, fresh eggs at room temperature · Writing tools (straight pins stuck into a dowel, cork, or pencil eraser) Wax (equal amounts beeswax and paraffin) · Wax warmer (candle heated container) · Paper tissues or soft absorbent cloth

SWIRLED EGGS You will need: · Dry, hard-boiled eggs (with no cracks) at room temperature · Food coloring · White Vinegar · Construction paper, scissors, and stapler · Rubber cement Disposable cups · Popsicle stick · Spoons · Paper towel
