AVANT ART GLASS BROOKLYN
Quick Facts About Laminated Glass Laminated glass was invented at the turn of the twentieth century. It is a composite consisting of two or more glass sheets bonded together with plastic or resin called interlayer. If fractured, glass stays in place, as its fragments remain adhered to the interlayer. Most common interlayer type is PVB – Polyvinyl Butyral.
Weaknesses of Non-Laminated Glass Ordinary annealed and heat-strengthened glass: Tend to break into large sharp pieces. Do not meet CPSC and ANSI safety glazing standards. Tempered glass: May result in spontaneous breakage. Leaves openings when fractured.
Laminated Glass Benefits Safety and security. Sound control. UV protection. Energy conservation. Protection against natural and man-made hazards. Design versatility. Compliance with CPSC and ANSI safety glazing standards.
Interlayers Non-clorinated polymers and plastics that are laminated to glass using heat and pressure: EVA Proprietary Composites PVB Ionoplast Polycarbonate (GE Lexan®)
