Presentation transcript:

Particle size John likes sugar in his tea. He has two cubes in one cup of tea! Abi likes sugar in her tea. She has one teaspoon of granules every time! What is the difference? The sugar will dissolve faster in Abi’s tea. This is because the smaller particles have a larger surface area!

Stirring Temperature Stirring helps to mix substances together and makes things happen faster! Things happen faster when they are hotter! For example, more substance can dissolve at higher temperatures and the dissolving happens faster! For example, substances will dissolve faster if they are stirred.

Filtration Filtration is a technique used to remove an insoluble solid from a liquid or solution. The insoluble solid is removed by the filter paper and we then call it the residue. The liquid or solution that passes through the filter paper is collected in the flask and we call this the filtrate.
