Figure 1 Von Willebrand factor (VWF) staining in endometrial tissues and correlation between the visual and computerized image analysis scores. Brown granular staining was observed in endothelial cells lining small endometrial capillaries. The amount of staining varied between cases, and panels A–D show examples of cases which were given visual scores of 1–4, respectively. The corresponding image analysis scores obtained for these cases were 78.61, 89.2, 95.03, and 101.19. Panels A and C contain endometrial glands (arrows). These do not stain for VWF. Panels E and F show the mean intensity of staining for VWF using the visual versus the image analysis scoring system. Group 1: women with menorrhagia and von Willebrand disease (VWD); group 2: women with menorrhagia without VWD; group 3: women with normal menstrual loss.
