Feudalism Learning Target: Describe the system of Feudalism and why if was necessary during the Middle Ages. Success Criteria: Expand your vocabulary with meaning of the word feudalism. Write fast facts about the feudal system. Label the pros and cons of each social class in the feudal system.

Feudalism Fast Facts After the Western Roman Empire fell, the conquered territories had no form of protection, government, or economy. Feudalism began as a way to meet all 3 needs. Feudalism was a political system of local government based on the granting of land in return for loyalty, military assistance, and other services. The system was based around relationships that were formed by the giving of land in exchange for labor or services. Kings would give land to Lords to receive their loyalty and protection. Lords would recruit knights to defend the kingdom for the king. Peasants worked on the land of the Lord and received protection for their work. The social structure of feudalism is shaped like a pyramid in a hierarchy (a ranking of social classes).
