The Marriage Feast Marriage 22:1-14

Parable of the Marriage Feast Matthew 22:1-14

Kingdom of Heaven compared… Figurative meaning of some characters quickly grasped. They were unwilling to come – a rejection.

A Second set of servants sent saying “everything is ready”… God has done everything for us Nearness of feast is evident V.5-6 give responses: > Some paid no attention (made light of it) > Some are just too busy with this life > Some reject strongly (Matt. 23:27) Seen in Acts about the Apostles and Preachers > Seized His slaves (4:3; 5:18; 8:3) > Mistreated them (5:40; 14:5; 23:2) > Killed them (7:58; 12:2)

The King is Enraged The King understands He has been rejected. (Luke 10:16). What city is destroyed? Those who reject God’s invitation will be destroyed (2 Thess. 1:8-9).

Those invited are called unworthy (v.8) Unworthy because they rejected invitation God now turns to everyone (v.9-10) > As many as are found > Both good and bad The wedding hall was filled.

A Different Aspect of Rejection (v.11-14) The King looked over the dinner guests (v.11) Saw one not dressed in wedding clothes (v.11) Represents one who has not truly put on Christ (Gal. 3:27). The man was speechless (v.12). The King cast him out (v.13).

Many are called, few are chosen. What is the state of your heart? Have you clothed yourself with Christ? Have you accepted the invitation of God?
