Carthage Central School 2017-2018 Proposed Budget

Key Points Proposed budget is $62,437,739 2.44% or $1,486,946 increase of current budget Assigning $6.1 million of the fund balance, allowing the district to reduce the burden on the local taxpayer

Recommendations of NYS Comptroller Reduce the tax levy Make one time purchases – addressing equipment needs in buildings & grounds, transportation, technology, and classrooms Use reserve funds appropriately - utilizing reserves from retirement, workers compensation, unemployment, employee benefits, and potentially funding a new reserve for repairs

Highlights Tax levy decrease of 5%, following the 9.39% decrease in 2016-2017, 10% decrease in 2015-2016 & 5.56% decrease in 2014-2015. The district tax cap is 3.06% Paying cash for the current capital project (voter approved 1/20/15) Purchase (15) buses with cash rather than borrowing Appropriate use of reserve funds Adding staff to support students
