Welcome to 2019-2020 School Year Mrs. Ramos

Mrs. Ramos I have been a teacher for more than ten years now. But before becoming a teacher I used to be a Chemical Engineer; consequently, applying science concepts to real world situations is my specialty. I also love to cook and I experiment a lot in my kitchen. Students, in this class will discover how a kitchen can be transformed into a science lab at home.

Physics Why does a free-throw from Lebron James follow a curved path? Projectile motion experiment will answer that question. Students will be exposed concepts related to electricity and electric power. Experiments with parallel and series circuits will help with the understanding of Kirchhoff's Laws. The thermodynamic box experiment will address transfer of heat and the importance of having a good insulator to minimize the transfer of energy.

Class Expectations Follow directions the first time they are given. Listen when others are talking. Work quietly and do not disturb others. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Show respect for school and personal property. Work and play in a safe manner.

Consequence System Verbal warning Written warning and parent contact Parent-teacher conference Administration involvement

Class Routine 1. Bell ringer (kahoots questions are based on the homework) 2. Instructional Time (direct instruction, debate, oral presentation, guided reading) 3. Independent Practice (Showbie) 4. Exit ticket (kahoot or Quizizz)

Assessments Students will be notified in advance (usually a week before) when a quiz or test is going to be administered. However, it is the student’s responsibility to develop good study habits since they will be assessed during class through bell ringers and exit tickets

If you want a good grade in Science then, you should: 1. Come to class 2. Do your homework 3. Pay attention when the teacher is explaining 4. Complete your class work 5. Ask when you do not understand, and “Think like a proton, always positive”

Supplies you need daily Electronic device fully charged (iphone, tablet, iPad, laptop. Only used to complete bell ringer and exit tickets activities) paper and pen (to complete classwork ) Scientific Calculator

Apps Showbie (independent practice) Edmodo (communication and sharing notes) Kahoot (bell ringers and exit tickets) Quizizz (review for assessments) Google docs (lab reports)
