Spectrum Open House Mrs. Walter Room B-14

A Bit About Me: This is my 22nd year teaching in LCPS. This is my 7th year at Harper Park, all in Spectrum. I have 15 years experience at the Elementary level. I got my bachelor’s in Early Childhood Ed from James Madison University-Go DUKES!! I received my Gifted Endorsement from UVA.

I have 2 daughters, Caroline, a junior, and Sophie, a freshman. Both go to Woodgrove HS. One of our favorite things to do as family is go to Nats games. Their favorite player is Trea Turner- me too!

What I love… My girls!! Gus and Zoey Vacationing with Family in CA! I

Spectrum Themes In Spectrum, we have 4 main themes: Communication & Culture Engineering &Technology Everything we do Ethics & Perspectives falls into one or more Business & Economics of these themes.

3 Goals of Spectrum 1: To become a divergent, creative thinkers who recognize problems and solve them. 2: To construct personal meaning of others and the world around them. 3: To develop the capacity for self –assessment- Ownership of Learning HPMS is now a Personalized Learning School-this ties into what Spectrum was designed for!!

6th & 7th Grade 6th and 7th grade students come to Spectrum in lieu of a Resource Class. 45 minutes, every other day. Paired with their music class. Students follow a Year 1 or Year 2 Curriculum- new projects and units every year! Students are given 2 Resource passes per quarter to use as needed. Resource/Games Day at the end of each quarter.

8th Grade Has their own unique set of units. Still meets for 45 minutes. Block 4, due to my schedule, will go to a Resource class 1st, then come to Spectrum for Block 4-2. Block 8, will do Spectrum 1st, then have Resource based out of my classroom the 2nd half.

6th & 7th Grade Units Survival Simulation Dig- Archaeology Business Unit- Pencil Company Design Challenges Critical & Creative Problem Solving

8th Grade Units Genius Hour- Independent Study Ethics Debates/Socratic Seminars Problem Solving Mystery Business/Engineering Unit- Rainbow Bay Design Challenges
