Year 1 Curriculum letter Summer Term Literacy: This term we will be learning the stories Stuck and The three Billy Goats Gruff. We will use actions to learn and retell the story and write our own tales. For our non-fiction topics, we will be writing a recount and instructions. We are also going to be learning how to rhyme. During our writing, we are going to be focusing on our punctuation, spelling and handwriting. Especially the use of commas and joining words. E.G. and, because Maths: As part of our maths programme, Maths No Problem, we are taking a more practical approach to teaching maths. We will begin the term learning to count in tens. We will then learn to order numbers up to and over 100. We will also consolidate our number bonds to 20. Then we will cover addition, subtraction, 3D shapes, length and height. Points: Please make sure that you send in named PE kits, forest school kit and ensure that your child’s trainers or welly boots still fit. Sun cream. Please apply suncream before your child gets to school. If it needs to be reapplied please put it into your child’s bag in a named waterproof bag and teach them how to apply it. Also please send in a named water bottle every day. It is essential that your child is hydrated and especially when the weather gets warmer. RE: In RE we are going to be focusing on Judaism. Art and DT: In Art we will be learning to colour mix, collage and to study influential artists. PE: We will be mastering movements including catching and throwing and developing balance skills, agility and co-ordination. PSHE: In PSHE we will be learning about bullying. We will learn to say no to bullying and how to be kind to everybody. Music: This term we will exploring pitch, pulse and rhythm. Science: We will be learning about seasonal changes in the weather and animals including humans. History and Geography: This term we are studying structures in Geography, and History. We will learn facts about different kinds structures. Who made them and we will try to invent our own. We will be learning about hot and cold places. The Beaufort scale and different types of weather.
