Making it Easy: Health Literacy Outcomes to improve social care Wednesday 26th Oct. Grassmarket Centre Research is being planned to explore how we can improve communication between health professionals and patients to improve health literacy in Scotland. Description of project/service/tool Description What will be discussed in the session This work will aim to investigate whether health professionals in a specific area consider the health literacy needs of their patients when communicating with them. The research will consider what they may already do to meet the communication needs of their patients and also explore to what extent people understand information about their condition, treatment, self management etc. The session will include a brief introduction to current thoughts regarding the research then discussion: How or if health professionals are addressing health literacy needs? Do people feel that health literacy techniques such as teach back are used by health professionals Communication issues( two ways versus one way) Can we develop a checklist for both patients and HP?
