Enrichment Opportunities At Nance On the Trail To Success

Why do we offer enrichment opportunities? We believe that extra-curricular activities provide opportunities for students to grow and stretch their thinking. When students can choose activities that they want to participate in, they become more invested in the school.

How do we decide what opportunities are offered? Some of our enrichment opportunities are district/state initiatives. (UIL/DI) Some of our enrichment activities are offered because we have a parent or staff member that is interested in facilitating a group based on their knowledge or interest. They talk with the principal to determine if it would be a good after school activity for Nance students. Some activities are from outside vendors and parents must pay a tuition to participate.

Club Sponsors: Lisa Degnan, Whitney Lindsey, and Rene’ Egle Robotics Team This year 10 students will be chosen by an application process to join the Nance Robotics Club. Students will meet each Tuesday afterschool for Lego Robotics programing and building time. The kids will use their natural curiosity to problem solve and create new and different Lego robots. Check out this QUICK video to see Lego Robotics in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znZWIBkTk9M Club Sponsors: Lisa Degnan, Whitney Lindsey, and Rene’ Egle Builds Curiosity Problem Solving Cross Curricular

Battle of the Books Check out the 2016-2017 Battle of the Books selections on the library website. In case you missed it, here is how Battle of the Books works: 1. A list of 10 books is given to interested students in grades 3-5. Our library has multiple copies of each of  these books.           2. Students are put into teams of six, which read all of the ten books carefully. Teams either choose to have all team members read all 10 books, or they split up the reading. 3. Teams can be from a single grade level, or mixed. The number of teams depend upon how many students participate. 4. Nance will have a competition to determine which team will advance to a district Battle of the Books competition. Teams receive certificates for participating. 5. The Nance Team will compete against other NISD elementary teams in a district competition to determine which team will be the district Battle of the Books champ. Medals are given to all teams, and a trophy will be given to the winning team. Contact: mmoore01@nisdtx.org
