As social media plays an increasingly integral and important role in peoples’ lives, it is consequently impacting their shopping behaviour. As the use of social media rises, it has the potential to influence purchasing decisions and attitudes towards retailers and brands. How important is social media? What role does it play in shopping? How influential is it to consumers? To answers these questions we surveyed 15,000 consumers in 10 key countries to determine the role of social media in consumers’ shopping experiences, its influence on purchasing decisions, its role in the path to purchase and, vitally, the implications for retailers.
