What opportunities does the 10 years extension of AGOA provide for Uganda

What are the national and regional actions needed to exploit these opportunities and advance export competitiveness for Uganda Market integration: Integration on the supply side of the EAC economies through integrated industrial development; and coordinated infrastructure development to enhance the productive capacity of the region.

national actions It would be useful to have market data and to identify sectors where Uganda has the potential to scale exports by looking at products that could be processed or manufactured with a competitive advantage based on interest, available commodities or skills that could be easily accessed or obtained

national actions Identification of barriers to expansion or investment in these potential growth sectors would be important to demonstrate (e.g., lack of financing or inability to find capital, the need for partners with experience and knowledge of production, etc.); product-specific details and tailored recommendations for exporters

national actions the development of an actionable framework that identifies the necessary actors and steps for addressing barriers to utilization of the legislation. For instance if certain incentives were needed to promote investment in new sectors, identifying how they could be created and providing for necessary next steps would be important.

national actions improve labor productivity and management quality through improved training and education, combined with increased investment in facilities and machinery and adoption of up‐to‐date manufacturing systems production of unique Ugandan designed products, and specialty products involving small production runs, to avoid competition in low margin commodity products.
