Parent Teacher Conferences November 14th, 16th, 20th Please Attend Cancelling: Notify the teacher as soon as possible Reschedule What to expect when you arrive. Any questions? – Tip sheet ESL questions, please stop in before or after your appointment with the classroom teacher If we are not in our offices, please wait – we may be sitting in on a conference with the classroom teacher.
Parent-Teacher Conference Checklist: Before the Meeting Ask your child if there are any questions she’d like you to ask Think about if there are issues at home you should mention Talk with your spouse, partner, or other guardians for their insight into what you should be prepared to talk about or ask the teacher Know what you want to discuss with the teacher Write a list of questions to bring up with the teacher and have prioritized them in case you run out of time Have a way to take notes during the conference (pen and paper, or tablet, etc.
Examples of Questions to ask: What is my child expected to learn this year? How will this be evaluated? What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects? Does my child hand assignments in on time? How are my child's test-taking skills? Is my child participating in class discussions and activities? How are my child's social skills? Does my child seem happy at school? Have you noticed any unusual behaviors? What can I do at home to help support his/her academic progress?
During the meeting Be on time; if you arrive late, you may miss your conference altogether. Stay calm during the conference. Ask for explanations of anything you don't understand Ask the most important questions early in the conference, in case you run out of time Respectfully discuss differences of opinion Ask your child's teacher for specific suggestions of ways that you can help your child at home with homework, reading, organization, routines, behavioral issues, etc. Make sure you understand the teacher's suggestions, and ask for clarification if you don't.
After the Meeting Know the best way to reach your child’s teacher going forward – email, phone, or additional meetings Know the areas your child is having problems in and ways you can help at home Know areas and subjects your child is excelling in and ways to encourage this development at home Feel you left an impression with the teacher that you are engaged and interested in your child’s education and eager to continue the communication going forward Discuss the meeting with your child and address any concerns or praise

The event that Americans commonly call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621. Around Rochester in November: Winter Farmer’s Market - The market will conveniently take place indoors at the Rochester Fire Department, at 277 Second Street (directly across the street from the regular farmers’ market lot) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays November through January, with the exception of Fire & Ice Festival (January 20) Big Bright Light Show – Begins November 20 at 6 pm. The buildings in downtown Rochester will be covered with more than 1 million points of glimmering holiday light. Lights are on every night from 5pm-midnight every night until January 7. Lagniappe – November 20, 6-9 pm. Join the merchants of downtown Rochester when they offer their customers Lagniappe (Creole for “a little something extra”) in appreciation for their support throughout the year! Kris Kringle Market – Friday, December 1, 4-10 pm, Saturday, December 2, 12-10 pm. Open-air Christmas markets will feature one-of-a-kind shopping, specialty foods, fresh greens & wreaths and handcrafted gifts for the holiday. The event will be located on W. Parent Center Upcoming Classes
Weather and Recess Students go outside for a daily recess, as long as it is not raining and the temperature is above 0 °F with wind chill or -17 °C Your child will need a winter coat, boots, mittens or gloves and a hat. They may want to have snow pants. Students should have tennis shoes to wear in school.
