Presentation transcript:

Your child is about to go on an adventure of a lifetime! Welcome to the Year 6 Laches Wood meeting clip Your child is about to go on an adventure of a lifetime!

What to expect… Miss Sahtali, Mr Bridgewater, Miss Jankowski and Mr Wyse will be staying all week. Other members of staff may visit in the evenings to see how the children are getting on. Staff from Laches Wood will work with groups throughout the week and be on hand around the clock to ensure the children’s safety and well being. Many of the staff at Laches Wood are qualified teachers as well as experts in their various fields of outdoor activities. Full risk assessments are carried out by the centre and although some of the ventures are, by nature, hazardous they ensure safety at all times and never force children to do things they do not want to do. However, their skills on ‘encouragement’ mean that most will have a great time experiencing …

Climbing, caving and ropes

Canoeing, BMX and archery.

Bushcraft and team games

Night time activities At dinner time we all sit together to eat. After dinner the children are asked to complete ‘dinner duties’ as part of the team building experience. After dinner there will be a night time activity including: Photo trail Nightwalk Games This year all children will be in dorms of 6-8 children. The teachers will be close at hand should they need any reassurance.

Codes of Conduct Pupils are representing the school High standards of behaviour, manners and interpersonal civility are expected throughout the week. Deviation from this will result in the child, or children, being sent home. We will ask you to collect a child that causes any problems for staff, and/or other children during the time at the centre. We therefore must have your acceptance of this standard and expectation. Students are not permitted to leave the centre grounds unless as an organised part of the trip.

Medication, accidents or illness We must have all medical forms returned to school by Friday (28th September). Prescribed medicines ONLY. To be given to the class teacher preferably Friday before, if unable to on the morning – clearly labelled in a plastic bag (e.g. food bag). You will be contacted by the school should your child become ill or have an accident – make sure we have up-to-date numbers in school.

Valuables! The week will be a ‘mobile free week’, children must not bring mobile phones with them. If you need to contact children in the event of an emergency please contact school during the day or use the Laches Wood number in the evenings. No i-pods etc. A school camera will be used to take photos for ‘memories’ and will be made available to the children at a later date. A small amount of money for tuck but please be aware that your child is personally responsible for all of their belongings during the week.

Clothing – names in please!!!! Please use the kit list that you have been provided with to help with the packing, but we reiterate the importance of sending ‘old’ clothes. They will get dirty, wet and horrible during the week…don’t send their ‘best top of the range Nike training shoes’ that they are likely to get upset about when they get wet canoeing! A drying room is available, but things do get misplaced! Send waterproof gear if they have it, otherwise they can borrow some from the centre. Pillows are provided but they need to bring two pillow cases and a single duvet cover. Small suitcases / holdalls please. Indoor shoes e.g. pumps – slippers can only be worn at bedtime so separate indoor shoes are needed.

Arrangements for the morning Please can all children take their luggage to the hall on the morning at usual school time. We will register the children as usual and then load onto the coach when it arrives. Parents may stay to wave the children off but we may not leave until 9:30 (once loaded etc.)

Arrangements for collection Children will arrive back in school at approximately 3pm. They may then be collected from the school hall. Let us know if they are going to Children’s Club.

Last of all…. Enjoy!

Any questions?
