IS SOUTH AFRICA READY FOR “DISCRUPTIVE TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY” ? BY: TSOLO NOXOLO 201711951@ufh.ac.za UNIVERSITY OF FORT HARE

PRESENTATION STRUCTURE Disruptive Transport Technology. 2. Is South Africa ready for “disruptive transport technology”? 3. Recommendations. 4. Conclusion.

Disruptive Transport Technology Most of the countries that have implemented or tested disruptive transport technology are mostly developed countries. However, this indicate that this type of innovation require countries with high economic growth and security. Disruptive technology occurs when technology and business models are combined to create new product that will create a new market and existing products will become obsolete (Stone, 2017).

IS SOUTH AFRICA READY FOR “DISRUPTIVE TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGY” ? NO, because : Economy status of the country. Increase in government expenditure. High level of unemployment. Lack of Power utility.

Recommendations Monitor the process of introducing disruptive transport technology in other countries, in order to be aware of risks and challenges. Increase the user charges to recover costs of improving infrastructure. Improve Power utility to avoid regular load shedding. Provide skill development programmes for disadvantaged group, in order to keep up with disruptive technologies.

Conclusion Transportation is a centre piece of every production around the world. Disruption transport technologies will result in safe, reliable and fast transportation. It is very important for government to invest in good transportation, but before the means of finance must be considered.
