Data editing in the Danish CPI May 2008

Data editing in the Danish CPI Data editing in the Danish CPI can be divided into 4 overall steps: Manual editing of collected prices Controls for consistency and logical errors Statistical data editing Editing of calculated price indices

Controls for consistency and logical errors

Example on distribution of price relatives. The HB-method Example on distribution of price relatives.

Step 1: Step 2: rjM = Median [r1j, r2j, r3j, ... rnj] Step 3: The HB-method Step 1: Step 2: rjM = Median [r1j, r2j, r3j, ... rnj] Step 3:

The HB-method Step 4: , 0  U  1 Step 5: dQ1 = Max {EM – EQ1, AEM} dQ3 = Max {EQ3 – EM, AEM} Step 6: Acceptance interval = {EM – C*dQ1 ; EM + C*dQ3}, Currently, the following values for the parameters are used: U = 0,4 (influence of the price level) A =0,05 (allows a minimum of smaller price changes) C = 5 (broadness of the acceptance interval)
