Mental Preparation (1) section G DFA
Presentation transcript:

Mental Rehearsals section G (1) DFA It has been proven that mentally rehearsing a task before physically performing the skill improves the performance. Visualisation is like dreaming only you choose the subject. Mental rehearsing is a very widely used psychological technique. Key Points: When rehearsing break the skill down into slow motion until you become accustomed to the mental pattern. Mental rehearsal is simply undertaking a mental imagery routine. Repeated rehearsals will have a long term effect on performance. Produced by judy taylor

Mental Rehearsals (2) section G DFA Mental rehearsals should include the following : Imagine the venue and performance environment. The skill of a firm stance & throw . The rehearsal must be successful and achieve the desired outcome. Multiple rehearsals produce a better result. The rehearsal should be as in real time. Players should attempt to physically feel the action when rehearsing (intrinsic Throwing)

Mental Rehearsals section G (3) DFA Coaches need to convince players of the value of mental rehearsals. Players have to become believers and practice to get benefits. Simply going through the motions will not get the desired results

Goal Setting section G (4) DFA Goals are set by the Coach or the player . There are two Categories: Performance Goals Process Goals. Winning cannot be a goal. Performance Goals must remain in the control of the player. Process goals hinge on the methods or process taken to achieve results.

Goal Setting section G (5) DFA Goal Selection Must be achievable Agreed by player & Coach Establish priorities when one or more exists Aim to improve performance Must be measurable Related to performance

Goal Setting Section G (6) DFA Goals once selected need to be Specific . Controllable Measurable Positive Challenging Appropriate Beleivable

Performance Goals section G (7) DFA Performance goals are totally under the control of the player. “I will improve my average to 17 in 8 months” I will endeavour to make the Zone team within 12 months . Performance Goals are measurable .

Process Goals section G (8) DFA These are the methods used to achieve the results. Typical Competition process “Always mentally rehearse before stepping up to the ochey. Maintain your concentration for every dart .
