Receiver operating characteristic curve of initial hCG level >1,300 IU/L in predicting failure of single-dose MTX in the treatment of EP. Sensitivity and the false-positive rate (100-specificity) are correlated. Calculated from 103 failures and 316 cases treated successfully with MTX. The diagonal line illustrates a diagnostic test with no predictive value. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.67 (95% CI 0.63–0.72) (P<.0001). The sensitivity and specificity were 55% (95% CI 44.7–65) and 74% (95% CI 68.7–78.7), respectively. The positive and negative likelihood ratios were 2.1 and 0.6, respectively.
