Brendan Kennelly: Begin Date: Objectives: Examine a new poem. Answer exercise questions to perform a closer reading of the poem. Warm up: Discussion If you were a poet trying to appeal to young people like yourselves, what would you write about and how would you promote yourself?

Worksheets The poem and notes are on the page. Complete questions 1-11 to form more notes. This will require a personal examination of the poem; for you to honestly interact with it. You only need to quote when asked for words and lines. The objective is that in doing so, you get to know the poem better than just taking down notes. Important note: write both questions and answers.
