CMA-1 (Exchange of best practices) Final version of the surface water monitoring chemical guidance approved at the plenary CMA meeting in Paris (21 October 2008) Sediment/Biota draft outline discussed at the plenary meeting in Paris. Drafting group meeting is scheduled the 29 and 30th january 2009 in Ispra. Final draft version to be presented at the next plenary CMA meeting in Ghent (may 2009).

CMA 1 Field trial in Danube (Budapest) Joint Research Center EU Comparison of River water samples (whole procedure including sampling) River water extract (measurement with real sample matrix) Standard solutions (instrumental measurement only) Target compounds: Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, Polybrominated Diphenylethers and Alkylphenols 13 Countries have participated (included Serbia and Bosnia/Herzegovina) to the field trial. A report will soon be released by JRC-IES

CMA-2 (Quality assurance and control) At the workshop held in Brussels in June, the first draft of the EAQC-WISE blueprint (i.e. the strategy for QA/QC for the WFD monitoring) has been discussed with different interested parties and stakeholders (workshop report available from the project website). The feedback received has been included into the final document that has been presented at the CMA meeting in Paris on 21 October. The final document will be publicly available after the end of the project (30/11/2008). The whole list of findings in the project can be found at web-site www.eaqc-wise.net This will support the QA/ QC Commission Directive implementation (legal consultation inside the EU Commission)

CMA-3 (Standardisation) The mandate to CEN for the development or improvement of standards in support of the WFD was edited on 7th April 2008 under the number M/424 The chemical parameters are: organochlorine pesticides, chloroalkanes, tributyltin compounds, pentabromodiphenylethers, PAH.

Activity CMA-3 (Standardisation) The first round of tenders for the consortium for the execution of the mandate is finished. The draft consortium has been identified with the help of the evaluation group The biological items (also included in the mandate) did not attract much interest within the tendering process (only one proposal): phytoplankton sampling (lake & marine), guidance on the estimation of algal biovolume (lake), guidance on fish sampling. A consortium meeting will be held on the 14th November at DIN in Berlin to discuss in details the tasks, duties and further steps with all potential partners. The proposal will be submitted to DG ENTR before the end of December Activity CMA-3 (Standardisation)
