Darts Psychology Motivation in Darts Coaches need to be able to Identify important & productive behaviour. Individualise the players needs Establish behavioural goals Understand Motivation & reinforcement Produce permanent behaviours Suppress undesirable behaviours Produced by Judy Taylor

Coach As A Motivator Coaches Qualities as a motivator . Leadership Communicator Have Technical Expertise Sense of humour Be able to apply Psychology ,be a team builder , develop Goals, be able to identify and modify performance enhancing behaviours

Behaviour Identifying Performance enhancing and non performance enhancing. Coaches should make their own list. Performance enhancing examples Promptness, reliability Home practice Concentration Pays attention Works on technique Maintains fitness Attends training sessions Coaches should set behavioural Goals

Motivational Reinforcers Social (By use of coaches ,elite players to reinforce the benefits of good behaviours) Material (Badges Trophies etc especially useful for Juniors) Performance Information (through feedback about behaviour and performance) Internal( coaches need to be able to wean the player by transferring the responsibility of positive reinforcement to the player or to a peer group. Coaches need to use reinforcers that are positive and create positive situations . Example “Well done that’s good ,your follow through is better now”

Group Dynamics Section G DFA What is a successful Team? An energetic group of people who are committed to achieving common objectives ,who work together enjoy doing so and produce high quality results. Group Dynamics are used to establish reinforcement of Team cohesion.

Group Dynamics Successful Teams will first make decisions on their want & needs. An effective team climate is one where the players are comfortable and of high morale Team Focusing is reinforcing the goals and the process of achieving the goals. Dynamic Activities is interaction with our team members as in workshops ,using Group sounds and High 5’s .In the simplest form its “I’m okay your okay”
