Module 3: Using the Tutorials Creating Games with Project Spark Module 3: Using the Tutorials

Target Agenda Using the tutorials Accessing the tutorials The five main parts of Project Spark game creation Here you have four main ways to create your games. The first one is an Empty World. An empty world is the start of a new game from scratch. The World Wizard allows you to quickly start a game with land, environment, time of day, and type of hero. The rest of the game you create on your own. , Tutorials walk you through five key creation parts: the hero, the environment, a mountain, a path, and a goal. Crossroads is an interactive interface that allows quick creation and easy modification of the game world and quickest way to complete your first full level while letting you play as you create. Crossroads is our first place of action!

demo Using the tutorials NOTE: Italic text is intended to be spoken. Non-italic text are instructions to follow for the demo. Make sure you are back at the Create page. The second time you return to the Create page, you will see you’re previously saved game in addition to the four levels of Project Spark creation. For our next project, we will develop a game using the tutorials. In this level of play, you create the game while working step-by-step through five key creation parts: the hero, the environment, a mountain, a path, and a goal. This unlocks the knowledge on how to program your objects and characters. Are you ready to take the next leap? Demo The Five Levels in the Tutorial Tool To launch us into the next game let’s click Tutorials and then play. The first selection we make is what will be our Input type. For Surface pro devices we will use Touch. Point out the main sections of the screen. An overview of the 3D Adventure Progress is at the top, amplifying information in the middle, controls on the left, selections at the bottom, and a method to Exit on the lower right side of the screen. Tap through the guided parts and describe as appropriate. The web site displays a pointed finger or a flashing icon at the locations you select. To create our hero we start by adding a prop. Prop mode is where you add or remove objects and life to your world. Props are selected using a Prop Palette. Let’s click the open icon and see what props are available. You can search for props using a tab or filter. The tab shows them as a group but if you want something specific you can use a filter. While you can choose any character you want, only a few are currently available. If you attempt to select a prop that requires payment, your taken to the prop page description and provided an opportunity to exchange your credits or buy with Tokens. Show them what a purchase selection looks like verses a free selection. At a later time, they can always go back to the marketplace and add more features to their Project Spark world. Free hero’s include Goblin Scavenger, Squirrel, Goblin Bruiser, Warbler Bird, Woodland Fighter Male, Woodland Peasant – Male, Woodland Ranger- Male, Woodland Peasant – Female, and Woodland Ranger – Female. After you make your selection, follow the prompts and guide the campers through the rest of the tutorial. In this tutorial you will make the following selections. Keep in mind you may have slight variations in what you develop. Add an enemy Make a mountain and add vegetation Create a path Create a goal Save your game Just like the Crossroads Adventure, Project Spark Tutorials provide time to play and test your games as you build them. In Tutorials we use the Pause Menu to switch between Edit and Test modes. Since we are using the Surface pro, we will use the keypad features for moving and fighting our battles. The same key structure works in Tutorials. To move our hero left, right, up, or down use the A/D/W/S keys or what is known as the virtual Left Stick. The virtual left stick is a bit easier than using the ADWS keys. Were done testing so let’s touch the top arrow and get back to editing our game. Continue through the editing process of Brains and Edits: Jump, and Camera and then test in play. Continue developing the hero with attack modes and test when your done. Continue through the additional parts for this tutorial. Using the tutorials
