AREA COVERED South Bohemian region is typical for the highest number of ponds in the Czech Republic. HISTORICAL/SCIENTIFIC/ARTISTIC INFORMATION First written mentions of fish farming in our region are from 11th and 12th century. The most known names for creating ponds and fish breeding are Mikuláš Ruthard from Malešov, Štěpánek Netolický and Jakub Krčín from Jelčany and Sedlčany.
