Choice Benefits of giving students choice How we can give students more choice – class and homework Assessments

I’ve made a song To bring along I don’t like making presentations All planned out but with hesitations It’s all about choice Giving students a voice We’re not all the same The way we use our brains Does everyone that’s in our class Have to do the very same task Could they make a choice? That will make them rejoice

Giving a choice improves motivation Knowing their interests can impact on their education It gives you the chance to work in collaboration And provides the opportunity for self differentiation Research shows that students do more work in less time They’re more likely to engage and less likely to whine Will it make a difference sometimes it can be borderline But for many it will enable them to climb

In your next revision lesson Give students chance to question What do I really need to do? The chances are that they already knew So give them the option Based on their reflection Assessments don’t need to be the same Some could even be a game A music video, a PowerPoint That’s just so good it won’t disappoint Straightforward tests Aren’t the only way to assess

Giving a choice improves motivation Knowing their interests can impact on their education It gives you the chance to work in collaboration And provides the opportunity for self differentiation Research shows that students do more work in less time They’re more likely to engage and less likely to whine Will it make a difference sometimes it can be borderline But for many it will enable them to climb To climb…………..
