Key points that determine if you will be hired or not Values and Behaviors Key points that determine if you will be hired or not

The old versus the New The Recruiting, Selection and Hiring Process has went through many changes over the past decades. One would say in the old days people only wanted to know if you could do the job.

The old versus the New However, in recent years things on the legal front have challenged companies and Organizations to look a lot deeper into who they are bringing into their organization. Companies and Organization want to know the whole person.

The old versus the New Businesses, Non-Profit Organizations and Churches have faced legal battles regarding individuals whom they have brought into their organizations who later caused them major trouble.

Traditional Sourcing and Acquire ring Talent The traditional way Companies and organizations sourced talent was more in line with finding a person that could physically do the job. Not only can they do the job can they do it well and it does not take a lot of training. If the answers to those questions were yes. Then the person was hired. (The process was a lot more in-depth than that but this was how it was done in a nutshell). Every now and then an individual may have to demonstrate that they can physically do the job prior to being hired.

Todays Sourcing and Acquiring talent Today companies and organizations want to know if your values and behaviors are consistent with theirs. Are you truly a cultural fit with very little liability risk.

How do companies and Organization determine if they are right PErson? Companies and organizations determine this in several ways: Personality Tests Behavioral Based Interviews In-depth one on one interviews dealing only with behaviors Psychological interviews Group pre-employment Team projects Thorough background checks

What are behaviors? Behaviors Are the way in which a person, or group responds to a specific set of conditions

What are behaviors? companies and organizations like to know how you have reacted to certain events or situations in the past. The belief is that past behaviors are indication of how one will react to the same or similar circumstances in the future. (Not everyone agrees on this belief and there is debate on both sides). This is the purpose of behavioral based interviews.

What are values? Values are principles that guides an individual's internal conduct as well as its relationship with others. Values are considered the core beliefs of an individual that has been shaped and molded in early years of life.

Behaviors and Values Most companies do believe that the behaviors they set as an organization can be taught. Most companies and organizations believe that individuals behaviors can be changed. Unless those behaviors are rooted in the person’s values The universal belief is that at a certain point, one’s values can not be changed.

What does this mean when seeking a job Opportunity? Always understand the culture of the organization that you are seeking to work for. The process goes both ways, you should be seeking a company or organization whose behaviors and values or consistent with yours.
