Presentation transcript:

How do you find the volume of a cylinder?

Volume = Base x height V = Bh =(6cm2)(4cm) = 24 cm3

V = Bh =(4cm2)(5cm) = 20 cm3 LearnZillion Notes: We also know that the formula, V=h applies to prisms that have other polygons as their base such as a triangular prism.

A = πr2 =π(3cm)2 = 9 πcm3 LearnZillion Notes: And we have learned that the area of a circle is found using the formula A= πr2

Cylinder Volume = Base x height V = πr2h

V = Bh V = πr2h V = π(2cm)2(7cm) V = 28π cm3

V = Bh V = 2πrh V = πr2h V= π(5cm)2(9cm) V = 225π cm3

V = Bh V = πr2h V = π(2cm)2(4cm) V = 16π cm3

V = Bh V = πr2h V = π(3cm)2(8cm) V = 72π cm3

LearnZillion Notes:

Which looks to have greater volume? Make two different cylinders out of two identical sheets of notebook paper, one by taping the longer edges together and the other by taping the shorter edges. Which looks to have greater volume? Test your prediction by measuring and calculating the actual volume of each. LearnZillion Notes:
