What is an Early College High School (ECHS)? A partnership between Weslaco ISD and South Texas College. Gives students a head start on the rest of their lives! Students are provided a framework of support with tutoring and mentoring that builds success. Allows students to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree or a certificate (up to 60 college hours) FREE!

What is an Early College High School (ECHS)? Serves students who are at risk of dropping out or who wish to accelerate completion of the high school program. Provide for a course of study that enables a participating student to combine high school courses and college-level courses during grades 9 through 12. Provide a participating student flexibility in class scheduling and academic mentoring

Target Population 8th grade students that have the desire and determination to attend college. 50% male and 50% female 50% at risk students 90% Minority population 80% Economically disadvantaged students Parental support AT Risk descriptions- Retained one or more grade level, failed 2 or more subjects, failed STAAR, etc. http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/peims/standards/1314/e0919.html

What are the benefits for the students? Students may graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree Students will be part of a smaller school Students will not have to pay for the Dual Credit classes, textbooks, required supplies, etc.

What is TSI? The TSI Assessment is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help your college or university determine if you are ready for college-level course work in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. TSI Readiness Standards: TSI Math At least 350 TSI Reading At least 351 TSI Writing At least 340 on the writing portion and at least 4 on the essay OR at least 5 on the essay with an ABE Diagnostic level of at least 4

Summer Bridge 2 weeks during the summer. June 3-13 To assist our students pass TSI in Reading and Writing. Some students need to pass only writing and are still required to attend. Opportunity to retest at the completion of the summer bridge

Texas Common Course Numbering System College Credit Tracking System

Weslaco Early College High Schools are part of the Weslaco ISD High Schools Program offers free/reduced breakfast and lunch. Transportation provided to students. Schools are fully staffed with an administrator, counselor and teachers.
