Where To With Our Learning This Term? -> -> -> Term 2, 2019

Where To With Our Learning This Term? Reading We will continue: Our Lexile reading with quizzes. Our R.E.D. sessions with real reading. Micro reading sessions and running records. We will begin: A regular ‘Story Time’ session with rich texts (the good stuff!). A focus on fairy tales. Reading non-fiction texts for our minibeasts inquiry. Reading stories about creation for Religion.

Where To With Our Learning This Term? Writing We will continue: Writing stories and persuasive texts. Learning what makes good writing. Practising and using bold beginnings (sizzling starts). Using ‘cap fines’ and i-fines’! We will begin: Using a planning graph to help build great writing. Going for a term without using dialogue! Increasing interest and developing fulfilling finishes. Learning about informative writing (later in the term).

Where To With Our Learning This Term? Spelling We will continue: Our weekly spelling tasks with more say about what words we’re choosing. Our weekly spelling tests on Fridays. Handwriting We will continue: Handwriting lessons (later in the term). We will begin: A weekly handwriting task. Receiving pen licences (grade 4)

Where To With Our Learning This Term? Maths We will continue: 20 Sum Challenges Earning last term’s brag tags. We will begin: New topics this term: Addition and Subtraction Fractions & Decimals Time Location (if we get time for all of these!) Problem Solving sessions. Earning a whole new set of brag tags.

Where To With Our Learning This Term? Religion We will continue: Our daily prayer Reading scripture to learn about Jesus’ message. (and finish off) learning about the events of Easter We will begin: New topics this term: ‘Creation’ ‘The Holy Spirit’ ‘Eucharist’ Some of us will make our First Eucharist this term.

Where To With Our Learning This Term? e-learning We will continue our regular morning sessions using: See Saw to share our work and enjoy our community. Literacy Pro for book recommendations and quizzes. Matific and Studyladder to increase our maths skills. Google docs and slides to record and share our learning.

Where To With Our Learning This Term? Inquiry Our new unit is ‘Friend or Foe?’ To learn about ‘biological science’ we’re going to be looking at minibeasts. Here are some example questions we might look into to get us started: What is a minibeast? What is a life cycle? How do living things depend on each other and the environment to survive? We will have the ‘Insectarium’ come and visit us Thursday in Week 2.

Events ANZAC Day ‘The Cyber Bully’ show Mother’s Day (stall) NAPLAN (Grades 3 & 5) Eucharist (most Grade 4 students) PAT Assessment Music on Mondays Reports + the ‘usuals’ Daily Gathering and Prayer Art and Italian on Tuesdays. Library borrowing and Sport on Wednesdays. STEM on Thursdays Teacher “thank you”s on Fridays. Assemblies every 2nd Friday. Special lunches

Where To With Our Learning This Term? Other Notes Everyone now has Learning Book 2 in their tubs. Finish Book 1 then take it home if you haven’t already. We need to collect all our ‘Counting’ unit pieces together. Please keep the caddies tidy! Hats stay on until the end of April. Winter uniforms start beginning of May

Where To With Our Learning This Term? We remember what’s important to us! It’s important to be friendly. We care for our classroom. It’s important to use manners. We follow teacher direction. It’s important to be kind. We move and work safely. It’s important to take turns.

Let’s have a great Term Two, learning together, laughing together, and helping each other out!
