Reviving the Environment By Eric Roberts

Questions raised by the Lummi Is technology to blame for damage to the environment? Or misinformation, misunderstandings, and simple greed? Students also have a role to play in their community and with their environment. What will be our role? .

Learning from the Lummi Actions can have unintentional consequences. Over fishing the Salmon. Clearcut logging. Logjam removal. Fertilizers used in farming. Technology can actually help the Environment. Engineered Logjams to duplicate natural habitats. Hatcheries to protect young fish until they are ready for release into the wild. Large culverts to allow the passage of spawning salmon.

Ideas for Restoring Our School Grounds Expand our recycling program. Change our cleaning supplies to “green” chemicals. Offer gardening or other environmental classes as electives. Get the word out to all students

Ideas for Restoring Our School Grounds Building animal habitat. Replant trees on school grounds. Plant berry bushes and other plants used as a food source. Shop class can build bird houses.

Celebrate School Pride through a clean environment.
