13th Amendment - 1865 1st of Civil War Amendments Outlawed Slavery Banned forced labor Served the enslaved African Americans

14th Amendment - 1868 Discrimination still existed Black Codes were passed Defined US Citizenship Everyone must have “equal protection under the law” Wanted to end people being treated unfairly. Served – African Americans, women, disabilities

15th Amendment – 1870 Last of Civil War Amendments No state may deny the right to vote because of race However, many states found ways around this Served: African American Men
