AstroShockClmp-11A, NLUF, 20 January 2011 Post-shot summary

NLUF AstroShockClmp-11A : Post-shot summary Objectives : Shock and jet propagation in inhomogeneous media Irregular shock reflection (Mach stem) Dual-axis radiography : planned for two 1-strip XRFCs, but had to use one 1-strip and one 2-strip XRFC Ideally, would still like to have two 1-strip XRFCs for AstroShkClmp-11B in September Noted that the LANL 2-strip head had much less phosphor 'graininess', gave higher-resolution images 13 target shots. All 13 shots gave data, but : XRFC problems : trigger jitter and phosphor breakdown (mainly affected XRFC4 in TIM3) Because of XRFC problem, some shots only gave single-axis images Examples of data on following slides…

Mach-stem formation at shock-reflecting cone – preliminary to main focus of NLUF, AstroShockClmp-11B in September 2011 Shock-reflecting cone embedded in foam # 60858, 120 ns

Shock propagation in inhomogeneous medium – extended previous data to later time # 60843, 100 ns # 60845, 120 ns # 60851, 160 ns # 60860, 180 ns

Interaction of jet with inhomogeneous medium – completed previous work on jet propagation # 60849, 160 ns # 60852, 199 ns # 60863, 240 ns # 60867, 300 ns
