Purpose Empowering you the reader to explore and respond to the book in a thoughtful manner. You will be responsible for preparing information based on the book that you are currently reading and you and your other group members will conduct a minimum 10 min discussion about the novel. You will also have one student record your discussion and send me a copy of your discussion.

Roles Discussion Leaders- develop a list of questions you think your group should discuss about the assigned chapters in that section of the book. Try to create questions that will encourage your group to consider many different ideas. Discussion contributors- Your role is to discuss and further the discussion within your group and to provide a few questions you might want to raise in your discussion that you think would further the discussion within your group.

Lit Groups

Discussion #1 social class Lenses Discussion #1- Your goal is to fully discuss the Social Class lens and how it connects to your novel from the next few chapters of either book. Sample Questions Who has all the power in your book and why? Do you think that your character could ever break out of their social class? Why or why not? In your opinion, why is the ruling class oppressing the other classes? What is unfair with the social structure in the novel? Use the Bloom’s taxonomy sample question to generate questions for your discussion.

Discussion #2 (Psychological Lens) Discussion #2: Your goal is to fully discuss the big events from your novel from the psychological lens. Think about the plot, character, symbols, irony, and other literary devices through this lens. Sample Questions What psychological conflicts drive the characters or the plot? What significant symbols or events are going to have a psychological effect on the characters in the story? Are there prominent words in the piece that could have different or hidden meanings? Could there be a subconscious reason for the author using these "problem words"? Use the Bloom’s taxonomy sample question to generate questions for your discussion.

Discussion #3 (Archetypal Lenses) Discussion #3- Your goal is to fully discuss the role that archetypes has in shaping events, characters and other literary elements in the novel from the next few chapters SAMPLE QUESTIONS What archetype represents certain events in the novel? Why? How has the protagonist’s archetype changed in your novel? Why do you think archetypes has such an important role in shaping the characters in the novel? Use the Bloom’s taxonomy sample question to generate questions for your discussion

Discussion #4- New Criticism Discussion #4- Your goal is to fully discuss the criticism lens so far in the novel from the first few chapters. Sample Questions What literary devices (Irony,) reveal the most about the character at the end of the novel? What images do we need to pay attention to in the novel? What hidden meanings reveal the author’s intentions? Use the Bloom’s taxonomy sample question to generate questions for your discussion.

Discussion #5- Reader Response Discussion #5- Your goal is to fully discuss the Themes and connections to everyday life in the novel from the next few chapters of either book. Sample Questions What themes were evident throughout the novel? What lessons can we learn from the novel? What was enjoyable about the novel? What was not enjoyable about the novel? Use the Bloom’s taxonomy sample question to generate questions for your discussion.
