Representing and supporting junior doctors across the UK

We are the trade union and professional association for doctors in the UK How we support you: When you need employment, counselling or career advice, use our support and expertise to guide you. When an issue arises in your local area, our reps and advisers are on hand to negotiate better outcomes. When it comes to national health issues, we are the leading voice for change in your profession.

Your representation We stand up for medical professionals, both individually and collectively at a local and national level. We work with the UK Government to lobby for improvements in the medical profession. We are stronger together. We have over 230 dedicated advisors ready to help you at each stage of your medical career. We’re here to support you on anything from rotas, contracts and career planning to ethics, fees, leave, occupational health, pay, pensions, tax and more.  In 2018, we supported our junior doctor members with: over 1,400 payment issues over 1,950 parental leave enquiries over 1,300 rota queries

Fatigue and facilities charter Junior doctors committee Recent achievements to make your working life better Fatigue and facilities charter Shared parental leave Improved record sharing The JDC (junior doctors committee) stands up for the rights of all junior doctors on education, training and contractual issues. The JDC negotiates on your behalf to shape your work and training for the better. Fatigue and facilities charter In 2019, and in response to BMA lobbying, the Government announced a £10 million investment for upgrading or installing rest areas or other facilities to improve the working lives of junior doctors. Each of the 210 trusts in England has received a minimum of £30,000. Shared parental leave Since 1 April 2019, shared parental pay in England has been enhanced to the same levels as occupational maternity and adoption pay, meaning new parents can make a decision based on what is best for them. Improve record sharing The way employment, occupational health and statutory and mandatory training records are shared is being improved across all trusts in England. This ‘streamlining’ means HEE will inform all junior doctors of their placements 12 weeks in advance of starting, with this data then transferred from HEE’s trainee information system to trusts and stored in electronic staff records.
