THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM. Function Removes waste products from the blood Cells produce wastes which move out of the cells and into the blood by diffusion.
Excretory System Notes. Functions 1. Collect water and filter body fluids. 2. Remove and concentrate waste products from body fluids and return other.
Excretory System. Respiration Waste When respiration occurs, your body breaks down oxygen and glucose. The waste products are carbon dioxide and water.
The Human Excretory System The function of the excretory system is to excrete (get rid of) wastes that are not helpful to the body.

Excretory System Elimination of Wastes

Do Now Based on your knowledge of body systems why do you think someone would have glucose in their urine?

Liver Breaks down wastes to be excreted. Produce urea from breakdown of proteins

Lungs Elimination of waste CO2+H2O that is produced during respiration

Skin Elimination of excess heat (sweat) Sweat (Perspiration) = Urea + H2O

Filter out liquid waste from the blood Kidneys and Nephrons Filter out liquid waste from the blood Nephrons= millions tiny filters inside kidneys

Nephrons Filters bloodremoves urea, H2O, glucose, other materials Then H2O + glucose are reabsorbed into the blood Urea remains in the nephron= urine

Connects kidneys to the bladder through 2 small tubes Ureters Connects kidneys to the bladder through 2 small tubes

Sacklike muscular organ that stores urine. Urinary Bladder Sacklike muscular organ that stores urine.

Urethra Small tube that eliminates urine from the body

Exit Slip: Answer on a sheet of paper to hand in. How does the excretory system help maintain homeostasis?
