What is CST? I thought I was in Nursing!

The CST curriculum was designed for students interested in careers in Health Care, Science and Technology. The curriculum is rich in Science, the Humanities and Math. It allows the concentration in either Health Careers or Science and Technology.

Most programs in Health Care and Science are select programs. This means that a student must formally apply to the program. Before application, the student must successfully complete certain courses and achieve a specified grade point average.

The CST curriculum was designed to allow students to prepare for application to select programs or transfer. Students can take required courses and establish a GPA while enrolled in the CST Program.

It is important for a student interested in a career in health care or science to establish a strong academic record. Programs in these fields are very competitive. Students are chosen based upon their academic performance. In general, students with strong grades, especially in Science courses, are chosen for these programs. You should strive to earn As and Bs in your courses.

Community College of Philadelphia has many resources to help you succeed. Visit the Learning Lab to arrange tutoring for difficult courses. Make an appointment with an Academic Advisor before registering for your classes to plan a schedule that allows you to perform to your potential. Visit the Counseling Center for help with managing your life as a college student.

Remember to keep your mind open. While you are a CST student, it is essential that you fully explore all of your options. Dont put all of your eggs in one basket!

Health Services Management The Health Services Manager works in the business- end of health care. This career is showing remarkable growth in the U.S. which indicates how much we depend upon these professionals.

Medical Assisting Are you looking for diversity, flexibility, and a rewarding career? The Medical Assistant wears a variety of very important hats…this is a career which will never leave you bored!

Occupational Therapy Assistant Do you want a hands-on career that helps people of all ages live full lives? A career as an OTA may be just what you are looking for! Consider this growing, in-demand field. The program is expected to begin within several years. Stay tuned!

Patient Service Representative Would you like to work with patients but without the tubes and needles? These individuals are specialists in a wide variety of front office procedures. They take care of patients by enabling health care to run smoothly.

Physical Therapy Assistant This is another hands-on, high demand career. The PTA provides treatment that improves patient mobility, relieves pain, and prevents or lessens physical disabilities of patients. Our new program is expected to begin within a year!

Biology These scientists study and work with plants, animals and humans. Areas include genetics, entomology, virology, agriculture, biotechnology, forensics and molecular biology.

Chemistry A chemist studies and works with chemicals. Areas include biochemistry, polymers, forensics, food science, environmental monitoring and remediation, pharmaceuticals, petrochemical and other industry production processes.

Pharmacy A pharmacist is the expert on drugs, their interactions and side effects and their relationship to human health.

Medicine As a medical scientist, you will study and train to deal with the maintenance of health and the prevention, alleviation or cure of disease for humans (doctors) and animals (veterinarians).

Dentistry Dentists study and train to deal with the maintenance of health and the prevention, alleviation or cure of disease involving the mouth and teeth.

Engineering Science Engineers apply science and mathematics to matter and energy in order to exploit their properties and make them useful to people.

Computer Science Computer science involves the mathematical study of problems and the development of the algorithms and data structures needed to solve those problems using computers.

Chemical Technology Our chemical technology program develops analytical and processing technicians for the chemical research laboratories of academic research centers as well as for pharmaceutical, environmental, biotechnology and petroleum laboratories.

Applied Science and Engineering Technology This flexible program allows students to choose from a wide range of scientific technology fields, including biotechnology, nanotechnology and process technology.

2) Earn an Associate in Arts Degree in Culture, Science, and Technology. CST is a degree granting curriculum… dont leave school without your degree!

Keep transfer to a 4 year institution as an option. Take advantage of our transfer agreements… and act early! 3) Plan for transfer to a four-year institution to earn the degree required for your career.
