Literature Senior year encompasses a wide variety of literature. The novels your child will read include: Flowers for Algernon Hamlet Go Ask Alice Catcher in the Rye Streetcar Named Desire

Vocabulary The vocabulary for this grade and level will be drawn from the novels we read. Activities will focus on creating meaningful ways for students to remember and use the new terms, instead of simply memorizing.

Grammar Grammar skills will be practiced throughout the year also. Writing assignments Do now activities Out of context grammar lessons as needed

Writing Descriptive and Narrative Writing practiced by writing in journals and in relation to literature. Persuasive Writing practiced in relation to literature. Expository Writing practiced by performing research and composing College Application Personal Statement.

Policies to be aware of: Research paper will count as 50% of marking period grade when completed. Plagarism in any written work results in a zero. It will be checked by teacher and a database called turnitin.com. Three missing homework assignments or three tardies to class result in contacting home and a detention.

Expectations: Always be prepared for class. You will need your tools to complete your work. (Notebook, novel, pens, etc.) Take pride in your work. Complete all assignments on time. Consult teacher with questions and/or concerns.

Possible Activities and Trips Lion King field trip- After reading Shakespeare’s Hamlet, students see the Broadway production of The Lion King and discuss Disney’s translation. Movie Nights

Contact Information: Email- areiner@rpsd.org Please contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns. Email is the best way to contact me, I check it regularly.

Thank you for coming tonight! Please check the assignments and grades on teacher ease frequently. Hope to see you at the parent/teacher conferences in November.
