Newton’s First Law of Motion
Newton’s First Law of Motion. First we need to define the word FORCE: The cause of motion (what causes objects to move) Two types of forces –Pushes –Pulls.
Ch. 3 & 4 Motion & Forces I. Newton’s Laws of Motion “If I have seen far, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.” - Sir Isaac Newton (referring.
Sir Isaac Newton Newton’s Laws of Motion Newton’s 1st Law of Motion -An object at rest, will remain at rest, unless acted upon by an unbalanced.
MOTION & FORCES CH d. motion: an object’s change in position relative to a reference point What is motion? How do you know the balloon moved?
Newton’s Laws of Motion. Newton’s First Law  The Law of Inertia  Inertia- the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion.  An object at rest.
 Force: A push or a pull Describes why objects move Defined by Sir Isaac Newton.
Forces and Motion Unit Vocabulary. Newton’s 1 st law Law states: An object at rest stays at rest. An object in motion stays in motion unless an unbalanced.
Laws of Motion NGSS Energy Unit 3. Newton’s First Law of Motion  An object will remain at rest or move in a straight line with constant speed unless.

Newton’s Laws of Motion. Newton’s laws of motion 1 st Law 1 st Law – An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion.
Newton’s Laws of Motion. 1 st Law of Motion (Law of Inertia) A body at rest will remain at rest.
CHAPTER 2 MOTION. PS 10 a,b The student will investigate and understand scientific principles and technological applications of force, and motion. Key.
Newton's 1st Law of Motion An object in motion will stay in motion and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force.
Newton’s Laws. 1. What is Newton’s 1 st Law of Motion? An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted.

Standards to Review PS 2.3- Create a demonstration of an object in motion that describe the position, force, and direction of the object. PS 2.4- Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object. PS 2.5- Evaluate and interpret that for every force exerted on an object there is an equal force exerted in the opposite direction.

Motion Maps Practice Jada approached the volleyball net moving in a positive direction for 3 meters in 1 second. She hit the volleyball to the opposing team’s libero. Jada moved the 3 meters back to play defense in 3 seconds. DeMichael walked 5 meters in 2.5 seconds from Mrs. Davies’ class to get a drink at the water fountain. Halfway back to class, he stopped to chat with DeMerius for 3 seconds. Then, he hurried back into class in 1 second. Taylor was dancing at the 8th Grade formal for 10 seconds on the dance floor. She decided she needed a snack. She walked 6 meters to the refreshment table at a speed of 2 m/s. Taylor stayed at the table eating a cupcake and talking to Ava for 15 seconds.

Newton’s 1st Law An object at rest will remain at rest or an object in motion will stay in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force.

Force= Mass x Acceleration Newton’s 2nd Law The acceleration of an object is dependent upon two variables - the net force acting upon the object and the mass of the object. Force= Mass x Acceleration

Newton’s 3rd Law For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
