Point de départ Infinitive constructions, where the first verb is conjugated and the second verb is an infinitive, are common in French.

Some conjugated verbs are followed directly by an infinitive Some conjugated verbs are followed directly by an infinitive. Others are followed by the preposition à or de before the infinitive. accepter de cesser de essayer de penser à

*Place object pronouns before infinitives. J’hésite à dire la verité à Frank. J’hésite à la lui dire.

Note the use of the infinitive in the following sentences: Je suis heureux de faire ta connaissance. Catherine est contente d’aller à Paris. Nous sommes tristes de partir. adjectives DE infinitive

The infinitive is also used after the prepositions pour , sans and avant de. pour  for sans  without avant de  before

Je travaille pour gagner de l’argent. Prends de l’essence avant de partir. Ne pars pas sans mettre ta ceinture. *The infinitive is used after prepositions like pour (for/in order to), sans (without), avant de (before).
